Sleep sense heart of sleep

It wasn’t until I had my own children that I understood the need to teach them how to sleep and even help them to recognise the difference between night and day. You may be like me, I once thought that sleep came naturally to babies and for some it does, but unfortunately NOT for others. I have come to understand the importance of teaching children the skills they need to sleep independently.

I am a paediatric/emergency Nurse, Midwife, Certified Sleep SenseTM* Consultant and also a proud mother of 2 happy children, who love sleep. Frankie and Harvey are the reason I started The Heart of Sleep. As babies, they made me realise how important sleep is and how sleep deprivation can affect the whole family. After implementing the Sleep SenseTM program with my children and seeing the results first hand, I am excited to share this program with other families.

With my experience as a midwife and my qualification as a Sleep SenseTM consultant I am well equipped to get your child on an age appropriate schedule. They will then be sleeping through the night and napping well during the day! The Heart of Sleep takes a holistic approach which educates, supports, encourages and empowers you, as you guide your baby or toddler toward sleeping more peacefully and independently. I will only ever ask you, to do what you feel comfortable with. I respect that all parents and children are different and that’s why it is important to me that I personalise the plan to suit the needs of each individual family.

About Sleep Sense™

The Sleep Sense™ program was developed by Dana Obleman who believes that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn. It isn’t about  your child “crying it out”, it is about creating an easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan that lets you make choices about what is the right approach for your child so that they sleep well.

  • It is not about “crying it out”

  • Each child is different so each sleep plan is different

  • Get your child sleeping through the night

Does this really work?

My mission is to have your child sleeping through the night more often than not. It doesn’t always happen straight away, but sometimes it does.

Happy, healthy kids that sleep well, meaning happy relaxed parents

I promise that the Sleep Sense™ program will respect your wishes and family values and will not require you to do anything that you are not comfortable with.

I was nervous about engaging a sleep consultant as I am quite set in my choices and parenting style, but my feelings didn’t last long after talking with Melanie. Melanie was understanding and respectful of my choices, yet offered encouragement to achieve what I wanted for my child’s sleep. Her approach was professional  and supportive. These qualities were a true asset when things in our family life weren’t going to plan. Her consistent coaching along with her empathy certainly kept me from quitting or giving up. I could not be happier with her service and the outcome for both my child and my own sleep. Melanie has changed our lives!
